Cerec One Visit Crowns

Do you hate wasting time unnecessarily?

Do you dislike impressions where you get a mouthful of silicone material and have to wait for 5-10  minutes while it sets?

Have you ever had a temporary crown come off?

Previously you needed two or three visits, a number of injections and a two week wait with a temporary crown until the crown came back to be fitted

Would you rather have a single visit and walk in with a problem and leave with the solution in one visit?

This is happening more and more and CEREC has all the advantages of one visit comprehensive dentistry.

AND is is less costly than normal crowns!

It's new, but has 20 years of clinical research behind it...

EXPERIENCE COUNTS!

We are one of the most experienced practices in Queensland with this system with Brad Wright having trained hundreds of dentists on the technique both here in Australia  and in America.

Brad Wright and Mark Cull have assisted the University of Queensland in its CEREC programme (begun in 2005) since 2003.

We are about to begin our 6th year with CEREC.

The CEREC Procedure

Because WE value YOUR Time

Let's face it, very few of us have perfect teeth, free of decay and fillings. You can probably see a filling or two in your own mouth, which do just that -- "fill" a cavity, or hole, in your tooth left from the excavation of decayed tooth structure. In many cases, those fillings are made of metal material and can go bad, weaken the tooth, or get additional decay under or around it. In fact, 1.2 billion of these metal fillings will need to be replaced in the next 10 years.* CEREC is a method used by thousands of dentists worldwide since 1987 not only to replace these fillings, but also to restore any tooth that is decayed, weakened, broken, etc. to its natural strength and beauty. Better yet, it's done with all-ceramic materials that are tooth coloured in a single appointment!  So, how does the CEREC procedure work?

Exam and Preparation

The CEREC System First, we examine the tooth and determine the appropriate treatment.  It could be a simple filling, or a full crown, depending on how much healthy tooth structure is remaining.

Next, we will usually administer an anaesthetic and prepare your tooth for the restoration, removing decayed and weakened tooth tissue. This preparation is just like we would do for many other restorative techniques.

Optical Impression

CEREC Camera Then, we take an Optical Impression of the prepared tooth.  Instead of filling a tray with impression "goop" that you must bite into and hold in your mouth until it hardens, we coat the tooth with a non-toxic, tasteless powder.

A camera is then used to take a digital picture of your tooth.  This whole Optical Impression process only takes a minute or two.

No Temporaries

CEREC 3D Software Next, the CEREC machine helps us create the restoration for your tooth. The CEREC 3D software takes the digital picture and converts it into a 3-dimensional virtual model on the computer screen.

We then design the restoration using the CEREC 3D computer program. Within a few minutes, your Dentist clicks a button, and the restoration design data is sent to a separate milling machine in the office.

Inserting block into milling chamber A ceramic block that matches your tooth shade is placed in the milling machine. About 10 - 20 minutes later, your all-ceramic, tooth-coloured restoration is finished and ready to bond in place.  Finally, we try the restoration in your mouth to ensure proper fit and bite.

The restoration is then polished and bonded to the prepared tooth. Your tooth is restored with no "temporary" or return trip necessary.  All of this is done in a single appointment!

Cerec is a machine dentists use to manufacture tooth restorations, like crowns (caps) and veneers.

It's an acronym which stands for Chairside, Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramic.

Chairside means the dentist can provide the treatment (crown, veneer, etc) in one patient visit and Ceramic refers to the final product - a non-metallic restoration which is bonded to the existing or remaining tooth structure.

As such, CEREC restorations are extremely durable and natural looking.

CEREC has been in use since 1985.  CEREC 3 (pictured) was released in 2000.

Many studies have shown CEREC restorations to last as long as Gold restorations (long the industry standard for quality and longevity).

The benefit to patients is treatment in one appointment and a tooth-coloured restoration which matches the look and feel of their natural teeth.

The benefit to dentists is a high tech solution to many of today's clinical challenges - particularly that of matching increasing patient demands for "tooth coloured" with high quality, long lasting restorations.
