Safe Amalgam Removal By Dr Mark Cull BDSc. (Hons) (QLD)
Very early in my dental career I made the conscious decision not to place amalgam in the mouth of my clients, which I have steadfastly adhered to. Therefore over the past 20 years I have only placed composite resin or ceramic and removed the other amalgam restoration.
For the past 15 years my personal journey has provided me with experiences in various alternative medicine modalities, such as naturopathy, acupuncture, massage, chiropractic, kinesiology, Chinese medicine, emotional intelligence courses and energy healing. I have found combining the alternative modalities with medical science has allowed me to utilise the best from these areas to benefit my own health.
Because I believe passionately in holistic health, I have always incorporated into my dental practice the safest possible ways to remove amalgam from the whole system, and therefore clients are best advised to utilise the correct diet and supplements before, during and after removal of amalgam. This should be done under the guidance of your treating naturopath, doctor or health retreat specialists, such as at Living Valley Springs.
It is known that aerosols generated during amalgam removal, even using the best practice techniques for removal, have long been a concern to dentists and allied health professionals. Therefore I am now pleased to advise of the recent purchase of what I believe to be an effective solution to address these concerns. I have introduced the IQAir Dental Pro air cleaning system, which cleans the room air in a dental office by constantly drawing in polluted air and exhausting filtered air back to the room. It contains high-efficiency particulate filters, as well as substantial gas-phase filters for mercury vapours, disinfectants and volatile organic compounds. This system complements my best practice technique of using rubber dam during all amalgam procedures.
You can be assured you will receive the highest level of clinical care in an environment that is as environmentally safe as can be made at this time and with the current level of technology available.
